Steve and Linda Rogers, with Margarita Perez and Reyna Govea assist with Monarch Watch tag and release project on Friday, October 13, 2000, with Fairfield Elementary School, grades one and three, Fairfield, Texas.
One hundred and fourteen lab-raised Monarchs filled the sky with shrieks of delight and excitement from the children energizing their flight. Students sang "South of the border, down Mexico way..." to really get the butterflies going. Prior to the release, students got to inspect various stages of the lifecycle, up close and personal, viewing eggs, larvae, chrysalides and butterflies. There was even some caterpillar petting and the students got to feel the butterflies' feet walk up their arms. EEeee!
Swallowtail Farms provided the Monarchs. Thanks to Jacob Groth.
